It is because of
our sin (our rebellion) against God that we need the
redemption of Christ. It is only in Jesus that we have
forgiveness of our sins and salvation (Acts
4:12). How we receive the salvation of Jesus is stated
plainly in the Bible.
The first Gospel sermon is recorded in Acts 2. In this
passage the Apostle Peter speaks of the crucifixion and
resurrection of Christ. Convicted, "When the people heard
this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the
other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" {38} Peter
replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the
name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And
you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. {39} The
promise is for you and your children and for all who are far
off--for all whom the Lord our God will call the (Acts
2:37-39 NIV).""
In short, the Gospel is the life, death, burial, and
resurrection of Jesus. One becomes a Christian by obeying
the Gospel (2
Thess. 1:8). This is done by believing the message about
Jesus (faith); then stop sinning and turn your life around
(repentance); next being immersed in the watery grave
(baptism); and continue in faithfulness until death (Rev.
2:10).
